PostSubject: Re: Main Engine   Main Engine - Page 3 EmptySat Dec 19, 2009 6:37 am

It was main engine version 2.1 which was basically the game version 0.0.0.2b. But now we will just go by 0.0.0.2c. Sorry for the confusion. The engines had a different version system than the game. And I referee to the game as the main engine.

So the game is officially called 'Biolab 4 v0.0.0.2c" soon to be 0.0.0.3 once we added in the actual rooms. I will be working on that next. I need a programmer to make so that the player can go up and down the stairs.

Also, should I add a skip button to the dialogue engine?

If it was 0.0.2.1 shouldn't it be 0.0.2.c?

It was engine 2.1. Which is game version 0.0.0.2b. I had version 2 of the engine then quickly added a few fixes thus adding the 'b'. Besides if it was version 0.0.2.1 then the game would have had to be functional by the first main engine! (0.0.1.x)

just trust me on this we aren't that far along yet, I'm sorry I screwed up the version system with the engines.

Finally:

Biolab 4 v0.0.0.2c:
-Added leveling engine
-Fixed small glitch with displaying game time
-Modified script for drawing the variables so that when we have levels it will display relative to the view

Our next steps are to add in the achievement engine at some point, get the actual levels in, maybe a shooting sound effect in. There is also that intro video that nrage made for us that needs to be displayed at the first. And it would be nice to have a skip button on the dialogue box. And if at all possible it would be good if we could save all of the variables to one file. I worked and worked at that using the script Gullesnuffs gave me, but nothing would work. All in all we are coming along great, and everyone's doing their part! Keep up the good work guys! I am organizing Resource Pack #3 right now and it should be up very, very shortly.

Okay, I can't seem to understand any of that, so its a good thing you do.

Edit: Can you please put a Exe file?

Hey DEST, why there is Experience and Level? I though that the players stats would be affected by his 'profession' and his equipment only?

And, I am sure that you can save all the variables into one file.

Also, it would be nice if you drew the ammo like this: "ammo left in current clip/ammo left outside your clip" but I think that the shots fired is there for testing purposes.

Also, did nrage send you the last frame of the running animation? I have it and some other stuff on my desktop.

Well, you level up to increase professions.`When you level up, you get to spend points on progessions and 1 point in your skill tree.

Yeah, he sent it to me. I didn't really get into putting the stuff nrage sent me into the engine. The next version will certainly have that. Thanks for the feedback.

Okay, so they are displayed for testing purposes?

I think he shouldn't get levels that fast maybe according some nonlinear function?

x being the level and y being the experience needed
y = 6x^2

or we could use exponential functions.

like y = e^(0.1x)

Sounds like you've thought out the leveling system Neko, very good. Can't wait to discuss this further.

Yes, stats are displayed for testing purposes only. You will be able to see them as a player, but they will be in a stat menu and they will probably be presented differently. As for leveling, whatever works for you. You can work it in. And will I be taking the engine to the next version, I have a bunch of stuff I know exactly how to add. But after that someone else needs to take a turn. There are a bunch of things I probably can't do that you guys will. And the resource pack will be posted tommorow with only the important stuff, it won't have stuff that are already in the game, and it might be missing a few resources that we might need in the future. But it's all on my PC, and the whole resource pack just wouldn't upload. The exe for the latest engine will be there.

Provide the script to play our intro video, that would be helpful. I have never actually been able to play a video succesfully. I am missing something. When I post the resource pack tommorow you will find the video in that, but you'll be able to make the script without the video.

Code:
splash_show_video("Nragemachine\dp splash v1 movie.wmv",0);

Works just fine for me. Razz

Can you edit your first post and put the newest exe file whenever you have a new one out? Whever you post the new one, it makes find older ones kinda hard.

Well, yes I will do that. But I think I'm going to start a new topic for the next version and move this one to the archives. This one is getting kind of long.

BTW: Progress is coming good on the engine, I should finish it very soon.

Nice! Well I now have all of the scenery and backgrounds and stuff imported. I am working on playing the splashscreen and intro vid right now, and then I'll actually build the levels using the resources I imported.
